What are the best museums of ancient history and which ones allow photography? I've been to a few, but am still looking to see which ones I ought to try to visit.
- Antiquities Museum of Istanbul: Very nice and photography is allowed (no flash)
- Carthage Museum in Tunisia: Very nice and photography is allowed (no flash)
- Cairo Museum of Ancient History: I hear they are rebuilding it; I was there a couple of years ago and it is quite cluttered and no photography was allowed
- Aswan Archaeological Museum in Egypt: Very nice for its size and they have no issues with photography
- Archaeological Museum of Rome: Very nice and photography is allowed (no flash)
- Capitoline Museum in Rome: Quite small, but they do allow photography
- Archaeological Museum of Athens: Recently refurbished and photography is allowed (no flash)
- Acropolis Museum of Athens: Brand new but they do not allow photography
- Temple Scroll Museum in Jerusalem: No photography in the indoor section of the museum, but they have relocated the Temple model here and they allow photography. It is outdoors, so no flash is needed
- Rockerfeller Museum in Jerusalem: No cameras of any sort allowed
- Ephesus Archaeological Museum: Some excellent pieces and they do allow photography (no flash)
I was in Naples this summer, but the museum there closes on Tuesdays and I didn't have time to wait until they opened.
I've not yet had a chance to visit any of the museums in NYC, but I've heard some good things.
