  Amici  .
Yes in this Forum is the virtue of Mesura and Prudentia and Caritas very important so i call you amice.

My point of departutre is :

I.

I believe Gods word  as stated in the Holy Bible.

II,
From there  we can discus/learn from each other in real brotherly and sisterly love as the Evangely prescribes us  to do
III.
We can even have doubs /questions as a lot of holy women and men had it.
in the past and today. As long as we believe in the Holy Bible.
We are human and so we never will understand completely  Gods wisdom i think.

So
But it must be expressed in a respectful and compassionate way
( i talk like a missionary perhaps forgive me )

III.Perhaps is a difference that you overthere in the States discuss more bluntly ( sometimes a littlle bit to sharp  for me ) and here in Europe we discuss more veiled.

IV.
Anyhow or Anyway there are a lots of chambers in Gods house and even the lost son returned  as long as we believe.

V.
I think Religion a nd Science can  exist together as long we dont use either of them to destroy the other
( hope my english is good enough to express my thoughts )

Perhaps typical Dutch  because in our small country we have to live together with 16 million people of diverse religions and grosso modo we respect each other.

As do I, though we may not agree what that "canon" is. :)

agreed, though sometimes a purely secular discussion is a learning experience as well.

I think I understand where you are coming from here.  Yes, I believe also that doubting ones faith can happen and can be a stepping stone for building faith.  As far as "God's Wisdom" is concerned, I also agree that His ways are higher than our ways, but that doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't try to understand them; and I believe that saying that "God did it", can also be used as an excuse.

this I am also in agreement with.  respect is a two way street.  the old adage that "respect is earned" is one that I do not necessarily believe works in a public forum like this.  I believe that we should start out respecting each other and as appropriate, it may be "un-earned". :)

I am not really sure I understand this point.  Let me say that for me, I do not believe that there is such a thing as a "debate" on a public forum like this.  not really.  I believe that we can learn from each other in open discussions, though.  and if we can all remember that "proof" of our comments and posts are our own responsibility - especially if a statement is made that is read by others as though it is an absolute "fact" (apriori statement).  I believe that apriori statements should be avoided if possible.

agreed.  Though as you know, not everyone that says "Lord, Lord" will inherit the kingdom.

I believe this to be correct as well.  part of the challenge with those that are not "religious" is that many times, they do not understand that their science is as much faith/belief-based as much of religion.

thank you for being here and for your opinions. I have much respect for those that do their best to communicate in another language that is not their main/primary communication.

Hello turanclancath,

Nice introduction!  Welcome.

I find that many discussion forums lend themselves to shouting matches and heated argumentation.  So I appreciate RamboPreacher's words.

I find myself in a position staked out somewhere in the middle between those who see the Holy Bible as inerrant and those who see the sacred writings as mythology.  I would assent that the Bible is Word of God, but would qualify that statement by saying the Bible is the Word of God in the words of human authors, and reflective of their limits of knowledge and cultural mileau.  That is overlayed by the fact that every reader is interpreting the Bible from within their own world view and within the limits of their knowledge.  So archeology and the academic disciplines of scriptural criticism may challenge the accuracy of a particular text without negating its role in revealing the Living God.

I look forward to reading more of your posts.
