Can someone please enlighten me about the claim that there is an inscription of the Decalog in an ancient Hebrew script on a rock in Los Lunas, Mexico.

Are there any other inscriptions, in Hebrew or other ancient languages, anywhere in America ?

Can these inscriptions be confirmed ?

The next question then is how old are they and who engraved them ?

Here are a couple links to get the gist of the story:

Thanks for the quick response.
My letter was written after I had read many of the articles listed in Google.
My problem is that I do not know the authors.
The story sounds"too good to be true".
My friends refuse to believe that this inscriptions exist.
Has it been researched by any mainstream university or academics ?

Here is the author of the first link:
Hu McCulloch's Page

That first link has alot of references at the bottom of it.

Interestingly, the one found in New Mexico is not the only one he speaks of:
The Newark "Holy Stones"

I had not heard of this item until you posted.  I too am curious about it - and wonder why there is so little to be found about it by scientists or scholars.

You write "I had not heard of this item until you posted.  I too am curious about it - and wonder why there is so little to be found about it by scientists or scholars."

I hope that this posting will arouse interest in the inscription and will uncover some more facts.

I emailed Mr. McCulloch and invited him to share more.  It would be a thrill to get him in on the conversation.

Interesting. Something that I had not heard of. In answer to your original question about other writings.....there are at least 2 books with other alledged scripts in them purporting to be from ancient times.

One book is called "America BC" and the other is (I believe) called "Before Columbus." Both books refer to ancient writings. The "America BC" book refers to Mystery Hill, NH.

"Before Columbus" has reference to a stone from a plce known as either Bat Creek or Bat Cave.

Unfortunately it has been years since I have read them and they are probably both out of print.

I hope this helped a little.

As a side note...."America BC" has a Zuni Creation that is quite remarkable and looks a lot like the Biblical one.

It's a fake. Modern Hebrew pronunciation (despite the "Barry" feller), regular inscription (far too modern compared to what's in antiquity), and found by someone who was proven to forge evidence for his theory.

I mean, who buys into this garbage?

I wonder what facts prompt Chris Weimer to be so very certain that it is a fake ?
Other articles claim that this inscription has been known for centuries, since long before scholars could read this ancient script.
I realise that it is difficult to believe that sailors in the days of Solomon had boats that could cross the Atlantic. The simplest "solution" is to ignore the inscription or to declare that it is a fake. Is that an honest reaction?
Remember the argument that led to the Kontiki expidition?
Is there really not even one honest scholar who is willing to study this inscription? If they search, they will surely find remains of the community that existed at the time that this inscription was engraved.

I don't mean to be a downer, but I'm with Chris - this is a fake.  And I believe he stated his reasons for saying so, though he didn't state his sources. ;)

Chris Weimer and rumplesnitz are really profound scholars!
They are certain that this inscription is a fake.
Have either of them seen it?
I have only seen the photos, hence I started this correspondence with a question and an open mind.
Chris.....what is the connection between an ancient inscription and modern Hebrew pronounciation ? Do you speak Hebrew ? Can you read ancient or modern Hebrew ? I can read modern Hebrew and can decipher this ancient script, albeit with the help of the alphabet based on an inscription found in Tel Dan from the days of the First Temple. The Los Lunas inscription is known to exist since long before scholars found and deciphered the Tel Dan inscription. So, Chris & rumplesnitz , explain who was able to fake this inscription ?

Vikings and Runestones. Roadside America
and
Vinland map - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

About fake Vikingstones in America .( same problem ! )
Why I post it you will see in my mail here under.

I,m a professional historian( mediaeval ) so perhaps I can say that I talk with some knowledge.
 I.   I absolutely site with Chriss and Rumplesnitz !Its Fake .

II.I never heard  before this link about the los Lunas etc.

III.My first flash of memory was  see!!!! you have also a lot of fake Viking inscriptions and a fake Map ( the so called Vinland Map ) trying to prove that the Vikings left people   and buildings  and settled permanent( Indians with blue eys and light skin ) in the USA  in the wake of the Leiff Ericson expeditions (see Pelican edition The Vinland Sagas  )  and stayed there, a kind of lost Viking tribe :)

IV.All proven fake ( the inkt of the Map proved to be modern   etc)
Nearly every serious mediaevist  knows that The Leif Ericson and his daughters expeditions( a great  Axe wealding lady   killing opponents  herself  )  came to nothing.

V.So by analogy it made the Lunas direct suspect to me.

VI .As I,m not a Thelogian or Paleographer I leave the conclusions about the script to others more  competent in this matter.

VII.As a historian is there a pro for the hypothesis  yes very hypothetical

A The Ships of Tarsus in the ( see Solomon etc etc )Bible .

B  . Phoenician/Carthaginian ( Carthago ) Expeditions to Cadiz ( circa 1000 BC founded by Phoenicians ) expeditions of them beyond the  Pillars of Hercules  too ,Hannos expedition see also Herodotus and look in encyclopedia Phoenicia see my links section ) expeditions to the English Isles  etc etc .

C. Michael de Torres( by memory  its 7 in the morning :)  the interpretor of Columbus was a Marrano.

And its supposed that alot of Jews and Marranos sponsered  Columbus.
( see Louis the Santangel and Abravanel and other high placed Jews /Marranos ) and some Marranos escaped after 1492 in this way to the New World.

So possible they made this inscription in theory.

VIIII.   But although I    guess  that a young nation as America in the 19 century sought eagerly to prove they had also an old Non  Native Indian history( a kind of Pilgrim fathers avant la lettre) so being equal to Europe(my hypothesis )

my preliminary conclusion is    Fake Propaganda  the Lunas and all the Viking inscriptions.

As its only nearly 7.30 in the morning and I work only by memory ( perhaps better than a computer!? :) ) i didnt look in my books.
Perhaps later.

Going to be springlike in Holland circa 15 Celsius wishing you all a Good Sunday .
turanclancath :)

Ps funny makes it more suspect even the Mc.Cullough you mention is also  believer of the fake Viking map  see Vinland Map in the link makes  the Lunas case not better

turanclancath states that he has never heard of Los Lunas inscription.......therefore it is a fake !  QED

That is a strange argument from a professional historian. Such an approach would be acceptable in mediaeval days BUT not today !

I know nothing about Vikings and therefore can not make any comments on them, except that there is no connection between Viking inscriptions and Los Lunas.

The Los Lunas Decalog is inscribed in a rock that weighs many tons.
The letters are an ancient form of Hebrew that was used in the days of Solomon. Several such inscriptions have been found in Israel in the last century, Tel Dan, Hezekiah's tunnel etc. The script is similar to modern Hebrew and is not too difficiult to decipher. It has NOT been used since the days of the First Temple and was most certainly NOT known to any one in the days of Colombus.

I am still waiting for comments by real scholars that will shed some light on this fascinating subject.

It was divided in I, II ,III etc .
Point II was saying that I didnt  know of the lunas.
But were do i say that it is therfefore fake ?

It was only a statement that I didnt heared of it .
Read the text carefull as we learned as young students  in our first year with text asnalyses  without  reading in it wat isnt in it.

And I,m a real Scholar University Master Degree  in History.

Or is that not enough ?
