One might be able to google-up a mod for foreign language support.  If I knew the name of this forum software, I could see what could be found.  But of course, it would require admin privileges to install.

I see at the bottom this is SMF 1.1.4.  According to the SMF home page, this software supports multiple languages at once.  So I'm not sure why it's not displaying Greek/Hebrew.

Ok, if you go to the support page:

Support

And enter "language" in the search window on the lower left and select "online manual", it takes brings up the instructions for adding language support for specific languages.  The software administrator will need to do this.

Then we can post Greek and Hebrew.  :D

We're finally making headway on this.  I needed server access that I previously did not have.  It was granted recently, so I'll be on this shortly :)

Also, I'm told by an admin at another forum that the font call-outs in the posted web pages need to specify font families that are unicode aware.  If they don't, the foreign language support will still not display properly on client web browsers.

I get the impression that the forum is set up either in English with UTF-8 shut off, ot in English with UTF-8 turned on.

Then, if it is off, it says you must convert all these webpages into UTF-8 by turning it on, and you must select English so that it translates the English code into a UTF-8 English code. The new code is what fits the system of translating.
Apparently i would think the whole site would have to announce a shut down to do this.

:)

Smile everybody
not sure but if this is Hebrew
it looks like a mob of unhappy Jews.
Maybe a war even because each post has them.
GRIN

This forum software is capable of displaying Hebrew, but the proprietors haven't cracked the code yet.

So I keep coming back to see if they've fixed it.

see my remodified post above....

the servor you got the hebrew from may not be the best, Google too has the tranlating features

http://translate.google.com/translate_tools?hl=en

Rick J,
i have my homepage as google.com
but i also have a google toolbar that has a google button
and if clicked on it comes up with the same page
but the page URL address is longer and has the UTF-8
that your language directions says to install,
look how the Google button extends the address here...

http://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8

that UTF-8 is the code that your directions says must exist for other languages; your link way up above said you had to change your webpage language to UTF-8

if you can read the html of the google.com, maybe you should compare it to the other one ? ? ?  ok  ok nontalent already said i am a stupid dumby....( i will LOOK up the words on ark )

I didn't get it from a server.  I have learned enough Hebrew to be able to type it myself.  However, this was a test to see if it would properly display transliterated Hebrew.  As you can see, it can't unless you really dumb it down to English letters only.

I agree with you about the code page settings for the BAS Forum software.  Maybe the admin will find out how to fix it at some point.
