Ark of the Covenant Location

Revelation 11:19 says the Ark of the Covenant was last seen in the heavens.  Perhaps that is why men can't find it?

It is something to think about it.

That makes sense.  Of course, it could also be that the heavenly ark is the original for which the earthly ark was only a model (Hebrews 8:5).

I'm partial to the theory that Jeremiah hid the earthly Ark or at the least knew where it was taken or hidden. It was their most holy of objects and the Jews knew that Nebbie was going to attack so the idea that Nebbie took it seems to be a little on the absurd side of the house. Not to mention that it was not listed as being returned to them with all the Temple treasures when Cyrus freed the captives.

Personally, I believe that some priestly family or group knows of its whereabouts to this day and as it is so coveted it will not be revealed unless/until the Temple is rebuilt. Just my thoughts, though.

True...which is why I don't bother with the crackpots who make the claims of knowing where it is. I would naturally be amazed if it were found, but that is neither here nor there. Cheers!

i would ask you to expand on this.

I would think that Jeremiah's words speak for themselves.  He said the ark would be gone, that it would be forgotten, that it would not be restored.  You don't remake something unless it has been destroyed in the first place.  I would assume that the ark has been lost for all time.

Today I read that the Ethiopian Buna is going to put the Arc of the Covenant on display in a museum. In my opinion, this is a betrayal of 2K years of tradition.

Hi Susan:

I read the original article and the recent follow-up at WorldNetDaily as well.

The one line in the article that stood out right away was, "...to defend the treasure, a copy was placed in every single church in Ethiopia."

Immediately it struck me as them giving themselves an "out", in case examination casts doubt on the ark. While I find any claim of a sudden revelation of such a storied object to be dubious (I instantly think of the "we've got bigfoot corpse in a meat freezer!" guys), I also wonder about the timing and motive(s) involved.

I also understand that the book of 2 Maccabees says that Jeremiah hid the ark in a cave and there it would remain until God decided to reveal its location.

Of course, in the end I must temper excitement over such an event with the skeptical eye of detecting false signs and prophets. As the event (or non-event) unfolds, we shall see...

Not really. During that 2000 years, the Ethiopian Church (and the Alexandrian Church before that) has periodically trotted out an Ark for certain foreigners to see, and then hidden it away again to be forgotten.

The description has never really resembled that of the Ark of the Covenant. It's always been best described as a fascimile.

So this time, the promising announcement followed by backpedaling, really IS the Ethiopian tradition.
